Next is the second book, the Sabhāparvan, said to contain many detailed episodes. It recounts the Pāṇḍavas’ activities connected with the royal assembly—its establishment and proceedings—and also the appearance/encounter of the beings called Kiṅkaras. In narrative terms, this section frames how royal power is organized and displayed, and ethically it highlights how sovereignty, public order, and the conduct of rulers are tested through events that arise in and around the court.

Educational Q&A

The verse functions as a thematic signpost: public power is exercised in the sabhā (court), and dharma is tested through how rulers organize authority, respond to extraordinary challenges, and maintain order. It implies that governance is not merely personal valor but disciplined procedure and ethical conduct in public institutions.

The text announces the Sabhāparvan as the next major section and notes that it contains many episodes, including the Pāṇḍavas’ sabhā-related undertakings and an episode involving the Kiṅkaras’ appearance/encounter.
