Ūrva uvāca | vṛthā-roṣa-pratijño vai nāhaṃ bhavitum utsahe | anistīrṇo hi māṃ roṣo dehed agnir ivāraṇim ||
Ūrva said: “I cannot bring myself to become one whose wrath and vow prove futile. If my anger is not carried through to its intended end, that unspent fury will burn me up—just as fire consumes the araṇi-wood.”
ऑर्व उवाच
A vow and the emotion driving it (here, wrath) must be governed by discernment; otherwise, unspent anger turns inward and becomes self-destructive—like fire consuming its own fuel.
Ūrva declares that he cannot accept being someone whose pledged wrath becomes ineffective; if his anger is not brought to completion, it will burn him from within, compared to fire consuming araṇi-wood.
