Cause of Kalmāṣapāda’s Niyoga under a Curse
ततो द्वादश वर्षाणि पुनरीजे नराधिप: । तपत्या सहित: पत्न्या यथा शच्या मरुत्पति:,तदनन्तर तपतीके सहित महाराज संवरणने शचीके साथ इन्द्रके समान सुशोभित होते हुए बारह वर्षोतक यज्ञ किया
tato dvādaśa varṣāṇi punar īje narādhipaḥ | tapatyā sahitaḥ patnyā yathā śacyā marutpatiḥ ||
Then the king once more performed sacrificial rites for twelve years, accompanied by his wife Tapatī—shining in her company as the lord of the Maruts, Indra, shines with Śacī.
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse highlights rājadhrama expressed through sustained yajña and disciplined religious observance, and it presents the wife as a sacred partner in dharmic action—together enhancing the king’s splendor and legitimacy, as Indra is enhanced by Śacī.
Vasiṣṭha narrates that the king (Saṃvaraṇa, in this episode) undertook sacrificial performances for twelve years with his wife Tapatī, and their radiance is likened to Indra and Śacī, emphasizing their harmonious and auspicious union in ritual life.
