Educational Q&A

The verse functions as foreshadowing: major social rites like a svayaṃvara are not merely private events but dharmic-political turning points. It highlights how personal choices and public contests in kṣatriya society can reshape alliances and set the stage for larger ethical conflicts.

At the end of his narration, a brāhmaṇa informs King Janamejaya that an extraordinary svayaṃvara for Yājñasenī (Draupadī) is about to occur in Pañcāla, signaling an imminent gathering of heroes and a pivotal upcoming episode.
