Educational Q&A

The verse closes the Āstīka narrative by highlighting completion and fulfillment: Jaratkāru’s life culminates in Svarga after duties are discharged. It reinforces the ethical ideal that one should properly complete obligations (especially to lineage and tradition) and then proceed onward without remainder—symbolized by the narrator’s ‘I have told it yathāvat’ (in proper order).

Śaunaka, having finished recounting the Āstīka episode (including Jaratkāru’s eventual ascent to heaven), turns to his listener—addressed honorifically as ‘bhṛguśārdūla’—and asks what else should be narrated next, marking a transition point in the frame-story.
