Kuntī–Brāhmaṇa Saṃvāda on Atithi-dharma and Crisis Strategy (Ādi Parva 149)
tārayitvā tato gaṅgāṃ pāra-prāptāṃś ca sarvaśaḥ | jayāśiṣaḥ prayujyātha yathāgatam agād dhi saḥ ||
After ferrying them all across the Gaṅgā and seeing them safely reach the far bank, the boatman bestowed blessings of victory—“May you be victorious! May you be victorious!”—upon them. Then, just as he had come, he returned the same way.
The verse highlights seva-dharma: one should perform necessary help (like ferrying travelers) diligently and selflessly, and conclude with auspicious goodwill (jayāśiṣa) rather than demanding recognition or reward.
A boatman ferries the group across the river Gaṅgā. Once everyone reaches the far bank, he blesses them with words of victory and then returns, departing as simply as he arrived.
