Vaiśampāyana said: O Janamejaya, at that very time Vidura, a man of profound intelligence, sent into that forest a man of pure mind, in accordance with his trust. And when the night had passed, the entire body of townspeople hurried there, eager to see the sons of Pāṇḍu.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how dharma is not only personal but also social: when wrongdoing threatens the righteous, the wider community becomes morally alert. The citizens’ eagerness to see the Pāṇḍavas reflects collective concern, sympathy, and the impulse to bear witness to injustice.

After the night passes, the citizens of the city gather quickly at the relevant place, wanting to see the Pāṇḍavas. This sets the scene for public mourning and reaction as the Pāṇḍavas move toward the forest/exile context.
