एकचक्रानिवासे ब्राह्मणगृहदुःखश्रवणम् | Hearing the Brāhmaṇa Household’s Distress at Ekacakrā
पौरेषु विनिवृत्तेषु विदुर: सत्यधर्मवित् | बोधयन् पाण्डवश्रेष्ठमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्,पुरवासियोंके लौट जानेपर सत्यधर्मके ज्ञाता विदुरजी पाण्डवश्रेष्ठ युधिष्ठिरको दुर्योधनके कपटका बोध कराते हुए इस प्रकार बोले
paureṣu vinivṛtteṣu viduraḥ satyadharmavit | bodhayan pāṇḍavaśreṣṭham idaṁ vacanam abravīt ||
When the townspeople had withdrawn and returned to their homes, Vidura—knower of truth and dharma—began to awaken the foremost of the Pāṇḍavas, Yudhiṣṭhira, to the deceitful designs of Duryodhana, and spoke these words.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A wise person must warn the righteous leader about hidden deceit; truth-aligned counsel (satya-dharma) is a duty, especially when threats are masked by polite appearances.
After the citizens disperse, Vidura privately addresses Yudhiṣṭhira, preparing him to recognize Duryodhana’s covert schemes and setting up the ensuing counsel.
