एकचक्रानिवासे ब्राह्मणगृहदुःखश्रवणम् | Hearing the Brāhmaṇa Household’s Distress at Ekacakrā
वयमेतदनिच्छन्त: सर्व एव पुरोत्तमात् | गृहान् विहाय गच्छामो यत्र गन्ता युधिष्ठिर:,“हमलोग यह नहीं चाहते, इसलिये हम सब घर-द्वार छोड़कर इस उत्तम नगरीसे वहीं चलेंगे, जहाँ युधिष्ठिर जा रहे हैं!
vayam etad anicchantaḥ sarva eva purottamāt | gṛhān vihāya gacchāmo yatra gantā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “Since none of us desire this, we will all abandon our homes and leave this excellent city, going wherever Yudhiṣṭhira is going.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical solidarity: when a righteous leader faces hardship, companions choose shared sacrifice over comfort, valuing loyalty and dharma above attachment to home and status.
The speaker reports a collective decision: unwilling to accept the present situation, they resolve to leave the city and their homes and follow Yudhiṣṭhira wherever he is headed.
