Vaiśampāyana said: As the Pāṇḍavas were about to mount their chariots—yoked with excellent horses swift as the wind—they approached grandsire Bhīṣma in deep distress and reverently touched and held his feet. Thereafter they bowed to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the great-souled Droṇa, Kṛpa, Vidura, and the other elders; in due order they paid homage to all senior Kauravas, embraced those of equal standing with heartfelt affection, and then the younger boys came forward to salute the Pāṇḍavas.

Educational Q&A

Even when facing injustice and imminent danger, one should uphold dharma through humility, gratitude, and proper conduct—especially honoring elders and maintaining social and familial obligations without abandoning inner discernment.

The Pāṇḍavas are departing for Vāraṇāvata. Before mounting their chariots, they respectfully touch Bhīṣma’s feet and then salute Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Droṇa, Kṛpa, Vidura, and other elders, embrace peers, and receive salutations from the younger boys—marking a formal, emotionally charged leave-taking.
