अज्जलि: शपथ: सान्त्वं शिरसा पादवन्दनम्‌ | आशाकरणमित्येवं कर्तव्यं भूतिमिच्छता,अवसर देखकर हाथ जोड़ना, शपथ खाना, आश्वासन देना, पैरोंपर मस्तक रखकर प्रणाम करना और आशा बँधाना--ये सब एऐश्वर्य-प्राप्तिकी इच्छावाले राजाके कर्तव्य हैं

añjaliḥ śapathaḥ sāntvaṁ śirasā pādavandanam | āśākaraṇam ity evaṁ kartavyaṁ bhūtim icchatā ||

Kaṇika said: “One who seeks prosperity and sovereign success must act thus: at the right moment join the palms in supplication, swear oaths, offer soothing assurances, bow with the head at another’s feet, and kindle hope. These are the expedients a king intent on gaining power should employ.”
