Jambuka said: “O great king Nakula, in the forest those who relied only on the strength of their own arms were defeated and fled elsewhere.” The line sets forth a moral contrast: mere physical force, when met by superior strategy or rightful power, collapses, and the defeated abandon the field.

Relying solely on brute strength (svabāhubala) is unstable; when confronted by superior force, rightful authority, or better counsel, such confidence collapses and leads to defeat and retreat.
The jackal (Jambuka) addresses King Nakula, stating that those who depended only on their own physical might were defeated in the forest and fled elsewhere—summarizing the outcome of a confrontation and highlighting the lesson drawn from it.
