Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

ततो युधिष्ठिर: पूर्व धनुर्ग.ह्य परंतप: । तस्थौ भासं समुद्दिश्य गुरुवाक्यप्रचोदित:,तब शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले युधिष्ठिर गुरुकी आज्ञासे प्रेरित हो सबसे पहले धनुष लेकर गीधको बींधनेके लिये लक्ष्य बनाकर खड़े हो गये
tato yudhiṣṭhiraḥ pūrvaṃ dhanur gṛhya parantapaḥ | tasthau bhāsaṃ samuddiśya guruvākyapracoditaḥ ||
Then Yudhiṣṭhira, scorcher of foes, took up the bow first and stood poised, his aim fixed upon the vulture, urged on by the teacher’s command.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined action under rightful guidance: a warrior should act with focus and restraint, following the teacher’s instruction rather than acting from haste or ego.
Yudhiṣṭhira steps forward first, takes up the bow, and stands ready to shoot, fixing his attention on the vulture as the target, prompted by his teacher’s directive.
