तांस्तु सर्वान्‌ समानीय सर्वविद्यास्त्रशिक्षितान्‌ । द्रोण: प्रहरणज्ञाने जिज्ञासु: पुरुषर्षभ:,जब सम्पूर्ण धनुर्विद्या तथा अस्त्र-संचालनकी कलामें वे सभी कुमार सुशिक्षित हो गये, तब नरश्रेष्ठ द्रोणने उन सबको एकत्र करके उनके अस्त्रज्ञानकी परीक्षा लेनेका विचार किया

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

tāṁs tu sarvān samānīya sarvavidyāstra-śikṣitān |

droṇaḥ praharaṇa-jñāne jijñāsuḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: When all those princes had been fully trained in every branch of learning and in the science of weapons, Droṇa—the best of men—gathered them together, wishing to test and ascertain their true proficiency in the knowledge and handling of arms.
