Then Phālguna (Arjuna), using the Varuṇa-weapon, filled his water-pot at once and went straight to his teacher, keeping pace with the teacher’s son. Thus he did not fall behind the ācārya’s son in any attainment or growth of skill. Excellence in learning is sustained by disciplined effort and respectful service to one’s teacher; by matching the diligence of a privileged peer (the teacher’s son), Arjuna ensures he is not left behind and becomes especially dear to his guru.
Arjuna uses the Varuṇa-weapon to obtain water quickly, fills his kamaṇḍalu, and returns to Droṇa alongside the teacher’s son, so that he remains equal in performance and progress, ultimately earning distinction and the teacher’s affection.
