Vaiśampāyana said: They carried that lion among men—Pāṇḍu—together with Mādrī, carefully secured, in a foremost conveyance borne by men and richly adorned. Thus the kinsmen bore along the well-bound remains of the noble Pāṇḍu with Mādrī, performing the due rites of respect for the dead.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma as family responsibility: even in grief, relatives must honor the deceased through orderly, respectful rites—symbolized by carefully securing and ceremonially carrying the remains in a dignified conveyance.

After Pāṇḍu’s death (and Mādrī’s accompanying death), the relatives transport the well-secured remains together with Mādrī in a richly adorned, man-borne conveyance, proceeding as part of the funerary observances.
