Vyāsa said: “This is indeed a complete hundred sons; the words I spoke were not false. Beyond the hundred, one portion still remains, destined to bring about a grandson through your daughter (dauhitra). From that remaining portion, you will obtain a fortunate daughter, exactly as you desire.”
व्यास उवाच
The verse underscores the reliability of truthful speech and the idea that outcomes unfold according to a destined remainder—here, even after a complete hundred sons, a residual ‘portion’ leads to a daughter and thereby a future grandson through her, showing how lineage and consequences extend beyond immediate expectations.
Vyāsa reassures Gāndhārī that his earlier statement was accurate: she will have a full hundred sons. He adds that beyond the hundred, one remaining portion will result in a fortunate daughter, and through her there will be a dauhitra (a grandson through the daughter).
