“Tell me quickly the true reason for which I have obtained such a consequence—this particular fruition of karma that has come to me. Reveal to me at once the reality of it; and then behold the power of my austerity.”

Educational Q&A

Even when suffering seems undeserved, the epic frames it within karma-phala and the moral governance of Dharma; the verse highlights a demand for transparent justice and suggests that tapas (ascetic merit) is a potent ethical force that can challenge or correct perceived injustice.

The sage (A472b-Ma470davya) confronts Dharmar1ja in his abode, asking what unknown sin led to his painful fate and urging Dharma to disclose the true cause immediately, while asserting that Dharma should witness the power of his austerities.
