Vaiśampāyana said: Having thus discharged his obligation to dharma by obeying his mother’s command, Vyāsa met his mother once again. Informing her that conception had occurred, he vanished from that very place.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as the faithful completion of an assigned obligation—here, obedience to a mother’s command—followed by non-attachment. One should fulfill duty (becoming ānṛṇa, ‘free of debt’) and then withdraw without clinging to outcomes or recognition.
Vyāsa, having carried out Satyavatī’s instruction to ensure continuation of the Kuru line, meets her again, reports that conception has taken place, and then disappears from that spot, indicating his ascetic, otherworldly mode of life.
