Vaiśampāyana said: Thus was born one named Vidura, the son of Kṛṣṇa-Dvaipāyana (Vyāsa). Because they shared the same father, he was the brother of King Dhṛtarāṣṭra and also of the great-souled Pāṇḍu.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds the ethical weight of shared lineage: Vidura, though later socially positioned differently, is affirmed as a true brother to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Pāṇḍu by common fatherhood—hinting that dharma and rightful regard should not be diminished by circumstance.
Vaiśampāyana narrates Vidura’s birth and identifies him as Vyāsa’s son, establishing his familial relationship to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Pāṇḍu as their brother through the same father.
