आदि पर्व — अध्याय १०६
Pāṇḍu’s Gifts, Forest Residence, and Vidura’s Marriage
इति श्रीमहाभारते आदिपर्वणि सम्भवपर्वणि विचित्रवीर्यसुतोत्पत्तौ पञ्चाधिकशततमो<ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate ādiparvaṇi sambhavaparvaṇi vicitravīryasūtotpattau pañcādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Ādi Parva—specifically the Sambhava Parva—ends the one-hundred-and-fifth chapter, concerning the begetting of sons for Vicitravīrya. This closing colophon signals the completion of a narrative unit that frames dynastic continuity as a pivotal ethical and political concern, preparing the ground for the lineage from which later conflicts and duties will arise.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it highlights the epic’s ethical emphasis on lineage and rightful succession, themes that underpin later duties (dharma) and conflicts in the Kuru narrative.
This is the chapter-ending colophon stating that the section dealing with the begetting of sons for King Vicitravīrya has concluded, and it identifies the textual location: Mahābhārata → Ādi Parva → Sambhava Parva.
