इतिहासा: सवैयाख्या विविधा: श्रुतयोडपि च । इह सर्वमनुक्रान्तमुक्तं ग्रन्थस्य लक्षणम्‌,उन्होंने ही इस महाभारत ग्रन्थमें, व्याख्याके साथ उस सब इतिहासका तथा विविध प्रकारकी श्रुतियोंके रहस्य आदिका पूर्णरूपसे निरूपण किया है और इस पूर्णताको ही इस ग्रन्थका लक्षण बताया गया है

Translation

The itihāsas, together with their explanations, and the hidden purport of the various śrutis as well—everything has been traced and set forth here in its entirety; and this very completeness is declared to be the mark of this work.
