Having respectfully greeted all those sages with folded hands, he inquired after the increase and well-being of their austerities—asking whether their penance was prospering comfortably. The virtuous sages, in turn, duly honored and welcomed Ugraśravas with fitting respect.
The verse models dharmic conduct in learned company: one approaches elders and ascetics with humility (folded hands), offers respectful salutations, and asks after their spiritual welfare—especially the steady progress of tapas—thereby honoring what sustains ethical and spiritual life.
Ugraśravas arrives among assembled sages, salutes them with joined palms, and politely inquires whether their austerities are flourishing. The sages respond by properly honoring and welcoming him.
