Those very hymns should be recited and also listened to by devotees whose inner self is fixed in Śiva—during all Śiva festivals, and especially on the fourteenth lunar day and on the eighth lunar day.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Linga Purana to the sages of Naimisharanya)
It makes śravaṇa (listening) and pāṭha (recitation) of Śiva-hymns a core limb of Linga-centered worship, prescribing them specifically for Śiva festivals and sacred tithis.
By addressing devotees as śivātmabhis—those whose self is aligned with Śiva—it points to Śiva as the indwelling Pati, realized through devotion and inner identification rather than mere external rite.
It highlights disciplined śravaṇa and kīrtana/pāṭha on Chaturdaśī and Aṣṭamī, a devotional sādhana that purifies the paśu (bound soul) and loosens pāśa (bondage) through Śiva-oriented remembrance.
