He is the ally of Agni, the sacred Fire, and His inner being is perfectly pacified. He Himself is the Fire that consumes impurity. Fierce in splendour and vast in radiance, He is Victory itself, and He knows the right time for triumph.
Suta Goswami (reciting the Shiva Sahasranama to the sages of Naimisharanya)
It links Linga-puja to Vedic fire-ritual: Shiva is both the sanctifying sacrificial ally (Agni’s support) and the inner fire that purifies offerings and the worshipper, making worship a means to burn impurities and pasha.
Shiva is shown as both transcendent calm (praśāntātmā) and immanent power (hutāśana, tejas). As Pati, He governs the right “time” for victory—granting grace when the pashu is ripened for release from bondage.
Ritually, it points to Agni-based worship (homa) integrated with Shiva devotion; yogically, it emphasizes inner pacification (praśānta-ātmā) so the Lord’s fire of knowledge can burn impurities and lead to victory over pasha.
