etatte kathitaṃ sarvam itihāsaṃ purātanam parārdhaṃ brahmaṇo yāvat tāvadbhūtiḥ samāsataḥ
Thus I have told you in full this ancient sacred history—summarized up to the “parārdha” span of Brahmā—so that the course of bhūti, the unfolding of manifested becoming, is understood in essence.
Suta Goswami
It frames the preceding teaching as an authoritative, ancient itihāsa summarizing cosmic manifestation—establishing the doctrinal ground on which Linga symbolism and Shiva as Pati (Lord of manifestation) are understood.
By summarizing bhūti (manifested becoming) across cosmic time, it implies the Shaiva Siddhanta stance that manifestation operates under the sovereignty of Pati—Shiva—while pashu (souls) experience the unfolding within pasha (bondage) until liberated.
No specific rite is prescribed in this line; it functions as a narrative colophon, preparing the listener for Shaiva disciplines (Linga-pūjā and Pāśupata-yoga) grounded in a correct view of cosmic order and time.
