He should cover the ritual vessels and offerings with darbha grass and sprinkle them with pure water; thereafter, into each and every one he should pour well-cooled water, thus establishing ritual purity for the worship of Śiva’s Liṅga.
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva-puja procedure to the Sages of Naimisharanya)
It prescribes shaucha (ritual purification) for Linga-puja: darbha covering and sprinkling with pure water, then placing cool water in the vessels—preparing offerings fit for Mahadeva.
By insisting on purity before offering, it implies Śiva as Pati—the supremely pure Lord—approached through disciplined purification of the pashu (the bound soul) and its ritual environment.
Ritual shaucha using darbha and prokṣaṇa (sprinkling) with pure water; as a Pāśupata-oriented discipline, outer purification supports inner steadiness and devotion during Linga-puja.
