Aśauca-vidhi — Rules of Birth/Death Impurity, Sapinda Circles, and Śrāddha Sequence
सूतके तु सपिण्डानां संस्पर्शो न प्रदुष्यति / सूतकं सूतिकां चैव वर्जयित्वा नृणां पुनः
sūtake tu sapiṇḍānāṃ saṃsparśo na praduṣyati / sūtakaṃ sūtikāṃ caiva varjayitvā nṛṇāṃ punaḥ
During sūtaka (death-impurity), contact among sapindas does not cause defilement. For people, one should avoid only the sūtaka itself and the childbirth-impurity called sūtikā, once again.
Sūta (traditional narrator) speaking to the sages (Naimiṣa context)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It does not directly teach Ātman-doctrine; it frames dharma through regulated purity/impurity, which supports steadiness (śauca, niyama) required for higher contemplative realization taught elsewhere in the Kurma Purana.
No direct yogic technique is stated; the verse emphasizes śauca (ritual discipline) and social restraint during aśauca, foundational observances that traditionally prepare the practitioner for mantra, pūjā, and meditative practice.
It does not explicitly address Shiva–Vishnu unity; it belongs to the dharma layer of the Kurma Purana that undergirds both Vaiṣṇava and Śaiva sādhanā by prescribing shared norms of purity and conduct.
