hariruvāca / sūryādipūjāṃ vakṣyāmi dharṃmakāmādikārikām

Lord Vishnu (Hari)
Concept: Proper worship establishes adhikāra (competence/eligibility) and supports regulated pursuit of life-goals like dharma and kāma.
Vedantic Theme: Karma as purifier and organizer of life (citta-śuddhi and niyama), preparing for higher realization.
Application: Use devotional-ritual discipline to stabilize conduct: align desires (kāma) under dharma through regular worship and ethical restraint.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: divine discourse
Related Themes: 1.7.3 (mantra sequence for Sūrya and grahas); 1.7.4 (upacāras of pūjā)
This verse introduces Surya and deva-pūjā as a practice that supports one’s capacity and success in pursuing dharma (right living) and kāma (legitimate desires).
Indirectly: it frames righteous ritual discipline (deva worship) as foundational for ordering life according to dharma, which later influences karmic outcomes discussed elsewhere in the Purana.
Maintain a regular, sincere practice of reverence (e.g., Surya-namaskara, sunrise prayers) as a discipline that strengthens ethical living and regulated enjoyment.
