Devatā-Pratiṣṭhā: Maṇḍapa Construction, Dikpāla Worship, Kalaśa-Abhiṣeka, Nyāsa and Homa Procedures
या ओषधीति मन्त्रेण कुम्भं चैवाभिमन्त्रयेत् / तेन तोयेन यः स्नायात्स मुच्येत्सर्वपातकैः
yā oṣadhīti mantreṇa kumbhaṃ caivābhimantrayet / tena toyena yaḥ snāyātsa mucyetsarvapātakaiḥ
With the mantra beginning “yā oṣadhī…”, one should consecrate the water-pot (kumbha); whoever bathes with that water is released from all sins.
Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Concept: Mantra-samskāra of water and snāna as a means to remove pāpa (sin/impurity).
Vedantic Theme: Antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi as a prerequisite for higher knowledge; external rite supports inner purification.
Application: Perform mantra-consecrated bath with disciplined intent; treat purification as ethical reset (avoid repeating the causes of pāpa).
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: ritual-space (kumbha near snana-sthana)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.48 (ritual sequence: kumbha-abhimantraṇa, snāna, arghya, gandha, nyāsa)
This verse states that sanctifying a water-pot with a Vedic mantra and bathing with that water functions as a potent rite of purification, aimed at dissolving accumulated sin (pātaka).
By emphasizing pāpa-kṣaya (removal of sin) through ritual purification, it supports the broader Garuda Purana theme that one’s post-death experience is shaped by karmic residues, which are addressed through dharmic rites and purity practices.
Use mantra and intentionality in purification practices—especially before sacred rites—treating bathing and cleanliness as ethical-spiritual preparation, not merely physical hygiene.
