If one sleeps on the left side, no special deliberation is required. And in the zodiac signs Leo, Virgo, and Libra, the doorway should be ritually purified; thereafter one should proceed northward.
Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Harmony of body, space, and auspicious timing; purification and directionality support well-being and ritual cleanliness.
Vedantic Theme: Sattva through śauca (purity) and regulated living; aligning microcosm (body) with macrocosm (time/space).
Application: Sleeping on the left side is permitted without special concern; for the specified rāśis, purify the doorway and then proceed/align northward (as per the text’s directional prescription).
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: domestic/architectural
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.46 (vāstu/auspicious rules: directions, doors, bodily conduct)
This verse treats the doorway as a ritual threshold: when certain zodiac signs are operative, cleansing the entrance is prescribed to maintain auspiciousness and ritual purity in household practice.
It does not directly describe the soul’s post-death journey; instead, it gives practical dharmic/ritual guidance (sleeping posture and doorway purification) that supports orderly, auspicious living—an indirect support to dharma emphasized throughout the Purana.
Treat the home entrance as a sacred boundary: keep it clean, perform simple purification (cleaning, lamp/incense, mantra if customary), and follow consistent, calm daily disciplines rather than overthinking minor bodily habits like sleeping on the left side.
