Prāṇeśvara Garuḍa-Mantra: Timing (Velā), Nāga-Grahas, Nyāsa, Haṃsa-Rite, and Viṣa-Cikitsā
अमृतस्तत्कृतो मोहो निवर्तेत च मर्दनात् / आत्मनः परमं बीजं हंसाख्यं स्फटिकामलम्
amṛtastatkṛto moho nivarteta ca mardanāt / ātmanaḥ paramaṃ bījaṃ haṃsākhyaṃ sphaṭikāmalam
By that nectar, the delusion produced in the being is dispelled through churning/pressing; the supreme seed of the Self is the “Haṃsa,” stainless and crystal-clear.
Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Concept: Moha is removed by the ‘amṛta’ through disciplined churning/pressing (mardana); the supreme seed is Haṃsa—stainless, crystal-clear—signifying pure consciousness.
Vedantic Theme: Ātman’s nirmalatā (stainlessness) and avidyā-nivṛtti through sādhana; haṃsa as ‘so’ham’ contemplation.
Application: Practice haṃsa/so’ham ajapā-japa with breath; cultivate ‘inner churning’ via steady inquiry and pranayama to dissolve भ्रम (delusion).
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.19.14 (bīja-mantra instruction; protective/cleansing function)
This verse presents Haṃsa as the ‘supreme seed’ of the Self—an inner principle/mantric identity linked with purity and clarity—through which delusion is overcome.
Rather than describing external afterlife geography, it points to inner purification: delusion (moha) is removed by disciplined ‘churning,’ revealing the stainless Self-principle (Haṃsa).
Cultivate steady inner discipline (self-inquiry, mantra-japa, breath-awareness) to ‘grind down’ भ्रम (confusion) and stabilize in clarity and ethical living.
