Nidāna of Vātarakta and Āvaraṇa of Vāyu; Doṣa-wise Lakṣaṇas and Triphalā-Yoga Remedies
एकदोषञ्च संसाध्यं याप्यञ्चैव द्विदोषजम् / त्रिदोषजन्त्यजेदाशु रक्तपित्तं सुदारुणम्
ekadoṣañca saṃsādhyaṃ yāpyañcaiva dvidoṣajam / tridoṣajantyajedāśu raktapittaṃ sudāruṇam
A disorder arising from a single doṣa is curable; one born of two doṣas is manageable, yet lingering. But a tridoṣa condition should be relinquished quickly as hard to cure; and raktapitta, exceedingly dreadful, is to be regarded as the most severe.
Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda)
Concept: Prognostic hierarchy: ekadoṣaja sādhyā, dvidoṣaja yāpya, tridoṣaja difficult; raktapitta as extremely severe.
Vedantic Theme: Viveka and vairāgya through realism: knowing limits of intervention and acting without delusion (yathārtha-jñāna).
Application: Triage and urgency: treat early single-doṣa disorders; manage chronic dual-doṣa carefully; recognize red-flag severity in tridoṣa and raktapitta and escalate care promptly.
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.167.13-16 (symptom bases for doṣa identification leading into prognosis)
It classifies conditions by doṣa involvement and indicates expected curability, reflecting a traditional framework for assessing severity and treatment outlook.
It singles out raktapitta as ‘sudāruṇa’ (very dreadful), emphasizing it as a particularly dangerous bleeding-type disorder in the classical medical worldview.
It encourages early attention to imbalances and recognizes that complex, multi-factor conditions often require sustained management and timely expert care.
