भगीरथ: स राजर्षिर्निन्ये भुवनपावनीम् । यत्र स्वपितृणां देहा भस्मीभूता: स्म शेरते ॥ १० ॥
bhagīrathaḥ sa rājarṣir ninye bhuvana-pāvanīm yatra sva-pitṝṇāṁ dehā bhasmībhūtāḥ sma śerate
The saintly king Bhagīratha led the world-purifying Gaṅgā to the very place on earth where the bodies of his forefathers lay, burned to ashes.
This verse states that Bhagīratha brought the world-purifying Gaṅgā to the place where his ancestors lay as ashes, implying her purifying potency connected with their deliverance.
Because his forefathers had been reduced to ashes and required purification and deliverance; Bhagīratha performed extraordinary effort to bring Gaṅgā to that very spot for their benefit.
Bhagīratha models selfless responsibility—working with perseverance for the welfare of others, especially one’s family and spiritual duties, even when the task is difficult.
