तदैवोपागतं देवं वीक्ष्य विस्मितमानसा । प्रत्ययार्थं प्रयुक्ता मे याहि देव क्षमस्व मे ॥ ३३ ॥
tadaivopāgataṁ devaṁ vīkṣya vismita-mānasā pratyayārthaṁ prayuktā me yāhi deva kṣamasva me
No sooner had Kuntī invoked the sun-god than he appeared before her, and she was struck with wonder. She said, “I only sought to test the efficacy of this mystic power. O deva, forgive me for calling you without need; please return.”
This verse shows a devotee’s humility—after realizing the Lord’s presence, she admits her words were meant only to confirm the truth and sincerely asks the Lord to forgive her.
Overwhelmed and repentant, she acknowledges she tested Him for certainty (pratyaya) and then, feeling unworthy or embarrassed, requests Him to depart while begging forgiveness.
When you realize you have doubted, spoken harshly, or tested someone unfairly, admit it honestly, apologize quickly, and act with reverence and restraint going forward.
