Śrāddhadeva Manu’s Sons: Pṛṣadhra’s Curse and Renunciation; Genealogies of Nariṣyanta and Diṣṭa
अमाद्यदिन्द्र: सोमेन दक्षिणाभिर्द्विजातय: । मरुत: परिवेष्टारो विश्वेदेवा: सभासद: ॥ २८ ॥
amādyad indraḥ somena dakṣiṇābhir dvijātayaḥ marutaḥ pariveṣṭāro viśvedevāḥ sabhā-sadaḥ
In that yajña, Indra became intoxicated by drinking abundant soma-rasa. The dvija brāhmaṇas received ample dakṣiṇā and were satisfied. The Maruts served the offerings of food, and the Viśvedevas sat as members of the assembly.
Because of the yajña performed by Marutta, everyone was pleased, especially the brāhmaṇas and kṣatriyas. Brāhmaṇas are interested in receiving contributions as priests, and kṣatriyas are interested in drinking. All of them, therefore, were satisfied with their different engagements.
This verse notes that Indra becomes exhilarated by soma during the yajña, indicating soma’s ritual role in pleasing the devas within Vedic sacrificial culture.
The verse states that the dvijas are satisfied by dakṣiṇā, showing that proper remuneration and honor to qualified brāhmaṇas is an essential limb of a correctly performed sacrifice.
It highlights honoring sacred service: support genuine spiritual teachers and devotional service with respect and appropriate offerings, and keep religious practice orderly and reverent rather than casual.
