Bhāgavata-Māhātmya and the Complete Summary of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
शतरूपा च या स्त्रीणामाद्या प्रकृतिरुत्तमा । सन्तानो धर्मपत्नीनां कर्दमस्य प्रजापते: ॥ १२ ॥
śatarūpā ca yā strīṇām ādyā prakṛtir uttamā santāno dharma-patnīnāṁ kardamasya prajāpateḥ
Also recounted are the appearance of the first woman, Śatarūpā—Manu’s excellent consort—and the progeny born of the pious wives of Prajāpati Kardama.
This verse identifies Śatarūpā as an original and exemplary woman by nature and places her within a sacred lineage connected to Prajāpati Kardama.
“Dharma-patnī” refers to a lawful, devoted wife who supports dharma—family life aligned with religious duty and spiritual values.
By tracing saintly and dharmic lineages, the Bhagavatam shows how devotion and righteousness are preserved through exemplary persons and families, inspiring readers to live with dharma and bhakti.
