Kṛṣṇa Kills Dantavakra; Balarāma’s Pilgrimage and the Slaying of Romaharṣaṇa
ऋषय ऊचु: इल्वलस्य सुतो घोरो बल्वलो नाम दानव: । स दूषयति न: सत्रमेत्य पर्वणि पर्वणि ॥ ३८ ॥
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ ilvalasya suto ghoro balvalo nāma dānavaḥ sa dūṣayati naḥ satram etya parvaṇi parvaṇi
The sages said: A fearsome demon named Balvala, the son of Ilvala, comes here every new-moon day and contaminates our sacrifice.
First the sages tell Lord Balarāma the favor they would like Him to do for them.
Balvala is a dreadful Dānava demon, the son of Ilvala, who repeatedly comes on sacred festival/observance days and defiles the sages’ ongoing satra (sacrificial session).
They are reporting a recurring disturbance: on every parva day Balvala arrives and contaminates their sacrifice, highlighting the need for divine or royal protection of dharma and yajña.
Protect sacred commitments—spiritual practice, service, and integrity—from recurring distractions; address disruptions directly and seek righteous support rather than tolerating ongoing contamination.
