Indra’s Prayers and the Coronation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa as Govinda
Govindābhiṣeka
नमस्तुभ्यं भगवते पुरुषाय महात्मने । वासुदेवाय कृष्णाय सात्वतां पतये नम: ॥ १० ॥
namas tubhyaṁ bhagavate puruṣāya mahātmane vāsudevāya kṛṣṇāya sātvatāṁ pataye namaḥ
Obeisances to You, Bhagavān, the Supreme Puruṣa, the great Soul. Obeisances to Vāsudeva Kṛṣṇa, Lord of the Sātvatas (the Yadu dynasty).
This verse shows Indra’s surrender: he offers obeisances to Krishna as Bhagavan and the Supreme Person, acknowledging Krishna as the true master and protector of devotees—an antidote to ego and false supremacy.
After Krishna protected Vraja by lifting Govardhana Hill and Indra’s storm failed, Indra realized his offense born of pride and came to submit, praising Krishna as Vāsudeva and the Lord of the devotees.
When success or power breeds arrogance, imitate Indra’s correction: acknowledge a higher divine center, practice humility, and offer respect to God and His devotees instead of demanding honor for oneself.
