The Brāhmaṇas’ Wives Blessed (Brāhmaṇa-patnī-prasāda) — Ritualism Humbled by Bhakti
श्रीशुक उवाच इति विज्ञापितो गोपैर्भगवान् देवकीसुत: । भक्ताया विप्रभार्याया: प्रसीदन्निदमब्रवीत् ॥ २ ॥
śrī-śuka uvāca iti vijñāpito gopair bhagavān devakī-sutaḥ bhaktāyā vipra-bhāryāyāḥ prasīdann idam abravīt
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Thus petitioned by the cowherd boys, Bhagavān, the son of Devakī, wishing to please His devotees—the brāhmaṇas’ wives—replied as follows.
This verse states that Kṛṣṇa became pleased specifically by the devotion (bhakti) of a brāhmaṇa’s wife, showing that heartfelt devotion attracts the Lord’s grace.
After the gopas reported what had happened, Kṛṣṇa, satisfied by the brāhmaṇa wife’s devotion, responded—continuing the narrative where devotion, not mere ritual position, becomes central.
Cultivate sincerity and loving service in spiritual practice; this verse highlights that genuine devotion matters more than social labels or formal credentials.
