देवक्या जठरे गभन शेषाख्यं धाम मामकम् । तत् सन्निकृष्य रोहिण्या उदरे सन्निवेशय ॥ ८ ॥
devakyā jaṭhare garbhaṁ śeṣākhyaṁ dhāma māmakam tat sannikṛṣya rohiṇyā udare sanniveśaya
Within Devakī’s womb is My partial expansion known as Śeṣa. Bring Him from there and place Him into the womb of Rohiṇī without difficulty.
The first plenary expansion of Kṛṣṇa is Baladeva, also known as Śeṣa. The Śeṣa incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead supports the entire universe, and the eternal mother of this incarnation is mother Rohiṇī. “Because I am going into the womb of Devakī,” the Lord told Yoga-māyā, “the Śeṣa incarnation has already gone there and made suitable arrangements so that I may live there. Now He should enter the womb of Rohiṇī, His eternal mother.”
This verse states that the Lord’s own expansion known as Śeṣa is transferred from Devakī’s womb to Rohiṇī’s womb—indicating that Balarāma is Śeṣa (Ananta) incarnate.
As part of the Lord’s divine arrangement for His advent, Śeṣa (who would appear as Balarāma) is moved to Rohiṇī, protecting the plan for Krishna’s līlā and the unfolding events in Vraja and Mathurā.
The verse highlights that higher guidance can operate beyond ordinary expectation; a devotee learns steadiness and trust—doing one’s duty while recognizing that outcomes may be arranged by the Supreme.
