Rishi: Atharvanic ritual tradition (formulaic prose-heading + mantra)
Devata: Pṛthivī; Śrotra (personified); Vanaspati; Agni (Adhipati)
Chandas: Yajus-like formula (not a regular metrical ṛc; liturgical prose/mantra style)
Mantra 1
संप्रोक्षणम्। पृथिव्यै श्रोत्राय वनस्पतिभ्योऽग्नयेऽधिपतये स्वाहा
For the sprinkling: to Earth, to Hearing, to the Lords of Plants; to Agni the Overlord—svāhā.
Mantra 2
प्राणायान्तरिक्षाय वयोभ्यो वायवेऽधिपतये स्वाहा
To Breath, to the Mid-air, to the vital powers; to Vāyu the Overlord—svāhā.
Mantra 3
दिवे चक्षुषे नक्षत्रेभ्यः सूर्यायाधिपतये स्वाहा
To Heaven, to Sight, to the Stars; to Sūrya the Overlord—svāhā.
It is used for saṃprokṣaṇa—sprinkling water to consecrate and protect the ritual space and implements before starting other rites.
Because a successful rite depends on intact faculties and vitality; the hymn ritually secures śrotra (hearing), prāṇa (breath), and cakṣus (sight) under their cosmic overlords.
The main requirement is clean water for sprinkling. Fresh plant material (vanaspati) may be included as an auspicious support, but no specific amulet is mandated by the text.
