Sukta 129

Mantra 1

खिलानि । एता अश्वा आ प्लवन्ते

Khila-verses. These steeds come floating hitherward, skimming on as though over the flood.

Mantra 2

प्रतीपं प्राति सुत्वनम्

Upstream, in return, moves the pressed rite’s power—set to run counter to what is adverse.

Mantra 3

तासामेका हरिक्निका

Of these, one is Hariknikā—the tawny-marked, singled out among the host.

Mantra 4

हरिक्निके किमिच्छासि

O Hariknikā, what is it thou desirest?

Mantra 5

साधुं पुत्रं हिरण्ययम्

A goodly son—golden, as it were, in splendour and in fortune.

Mantra 6

क्वाहतं परास्यः

Where is it smitten?—cast it forth away from this one.

Mantra 7

यत्रामूस्तिस्रः शिंशपाः

Where yonder stand the three śiṃśapā-trees—

परि त्रयः

Round about are the three—

Mantra 9

पृदाकवः

The spotted ones (leopards) —

Mantra 10

शृङ्गं धमन्त आसते

Blowing upon the horn, they sit in station.

Mantra 11

अयन्महा ते अर्वाहः

This, for thee, is the mighty bringing-hither.

Mantra 12

स इच्छकं सघाघते

He, the desirous one, (goeth/pertaineth) unto Saghāghata.

Mantra 13

सघाघते गोमीद्या गोगतीरिति

‘O Saghāghata, cow-desiring—(grant) the goings unto cattle’: thus (is the formula).

Mantra 14

पुमां कुस्ते निमिच्छसि

A man, O Kuste, thou dost cause to shut (his eyes)/to vanish.

Mantra 15

पल्प बद्ध वयो इति

‘Palpa—bound is the vital power’: thus (runs the saying).

Mantra 16

बद्ध वो अघा इति

‘Bound for you are the Evils’—so (runs the formula).

Mantra 17

अजागार केविका

The Wakeful one—Kevikā.

Mantra 18

अश्वस्य वारो गोशपद्यके

The Horse’s covering (is) at Gośapadyaka.

Mantra 19

श्येनीपती सा

She—(the) Hawk-lords’ (power).

Mantra 20

अनामयोपजिह्विका

Health—(against) Upajihvikā.
