Mantra 1
खिलानि । एता अश्वा आ प्लवन्ते
Khila-verses. These steeds come floating hitherward, skimming on as though over the flood.

प्रतीपं प्राति सुत्वनम्
Upstream, in return, moves the pressed rite’s power—set to run counter to what is adverse.

तासामेका हरिक्निका
Of these, one is Hariknikā—the tawny-marked, singled out among the host.

हरिक्निके किमिच्छासि
O Hariknikā, what is it thou desirest?

साधुं पुत्रं हिरण्ययम्
A goodly son—golden, as it were, in splendour and in fortune.

स इच्छकं सघाघते
He, the desirous one, (goeth/pertaineth) unto Saghāghata.

सघाघते गोमीद्या गोगतीरिति
‘O Saghāghata, cow-desiring—(grant) the goings unto cattle’: thus (is the formula).

पुमां कुस्ते निमिच्छसि
A man, O Kuste, thou dost cause to shut (his eyes)/to vanish.

पल्प बद्ध वयो इति
‘Palpa—bound is the vital power’: thus (runs the saying).

बद्ध वो अघा इति
‘Bound for you are the Evils’—so (runs the formula).

The Wakeful one—Kevikā.

She—(the) Hawk-lords’ (power).

अनामयोपजिह्विका
Health—(against) Upajihvikā.
They symbolize swift, effective forces that carry prosperity and success to the performer—powers that arrive quickly and overcome obstacles.
It is the ritual goal: to draw the desired benefit into one’s immediate sphere—so gain, strength, or success actually ‘arrives’ and is secured.
As a protective, apotropaic implement: sounding or empowering the horn marks a guarded perimeter, helping prevent obstruction or harm while prosperity is being drawn in.
