Kāṇḍa 2 primarily develops healing (bhaiṣajya) through ‘release from bindings’—driving out disease and restoring wholeness—while also emphasizing rakṣa protection of the household and reversal of hostility back to its source.
They progress from restoring wholeness through Atharvanic curative power (2.1), to protecting life-force and domestic territory via apotropaic rites (2.2), to reversal-and-protection stabilizing body, livestock, and desire through radiance, herbs, and ṛta (2.3), and finally to renewed vitality by expelling disease-agents and re-securing social–ritual order (2.4).
Alongside disease and poison remedies, it preserves significant formulas for childbirth and infant protection, showing how Atharvanic healing extends from individual cure to safeguarding lineage, home, and ritual order.
