मृगयायां तु व्यायामः श्लेष्मपित्तमेदःस्वेदनाशश्चले स्थिते च काये लक्षपरिचयः कोपभयस्थानेषु च मृगाणां चित्तज्ञानमनित्ययानं चेति ॥ कZ_०८.३.४६ ॥
mṛgayāyāṃ tu vyāyāmaḥ śleṣma-pitta-medaḥ-svedanāśaś cale sthite ca kāye lakṣa-paricayaḥ kopabhaya-sthāneṣu ca mṛgāṇāṃ citta-jñānam anitya-yānaṃ ceti
In hunting, however, there are some utilities: physical exercise; reduction of phlegm, bile, fat, and perspiration; practice in aiming whether the body is moving or still; understanding the minds of animals in situations of anger and fear; and learning movement that is uncertain/unpredictable.
To distinguish between activities that can be partially instrumental (training/fitness) and those that are largely destructive, enabling calibrated regulation rather than blanket prohibition.
It frames hunting as weapons/attention training relevant to command performance, but only insofar as it remains controlled and does not displace governance duties.
