य एतदुपनिषदं नित्यमधीते सोऽग्निपूतो भवति। स वायुपूतो भवति। स आदित्यपूतो भवति। स ब्रह्मपूतो भवति। स विष्णुपूतो भवति। स रुद्रपूतो भवति। स सर्वेषु तीर्थेषु स्नातो भवति। स सर्वेषु वेदेष्वधीतो भवति। स सर्ववेदव्रतचर्यासु चरितो भवति। तेनेतिहासपुराणानां रुद्राणां शतसहस्राणि जप्तानि फलानि भवन्ति। प्रणवानामयुतं जप्तं भवति। दश पूर्वान्दशोत्तरान्पुनाति। स पङ्क्तिपावनो भवति। स महान्भवति। ब्रह्महत्यासुरापानस्वर्णस्तेयगुरुतल्पगमनतत्संयोगिपातकेभ्यः पूतो भवति॥२९॥

ya etad upaniṣadaṃ nityam adhīte so'gnipūto bhavati | sa vāyupūto bhavati | sa ādityapūto bhavati | sa brahmapūto bhavati | sa viṣṇupūto bhavati | sa rudrapūto bhavati | sa sarveṣu tīrtheṣu snāto bhavati | sa sarveṣu vedeṣv adhīto bhavati | sa sarvaveda-vrata-caryāsu carito bhavati | tenetihāsa-purāṇānāṃ rudrāṇāṃ śata-sahasrāṇi japtāni phalāni bhavanti | praṇavānām ayutaṃ japtaṃ bhavati | daśa pūrvān daśottarān punāti | sa paṅktipāvano bhavati | sa mahān bhavati | brahmahatyā-surāpāna-svarṇasteya-gurutalpagamana-tatsaṃyogipātakebhyaḥ pūto bhavati ||29||

Translation

Wer diese Upaniṣad täglich studiert, wird durch Feuer gereinigt; durch Wind gereinigt; durch die Sonne gereinigt; durch Brahmā gereinigt; durch Viṣṇu gereinigt; durch Rudra gereinigt. Er ist wie einer, der in allen Tīrthas gebadet hat; wie einer, der alle Veden studiert hat; wie einer, der die Gelübde und Disziplinen aller Veden geübt hat. Dadurch fallen ihm die Früchte zu, als hätte er Hunderttausende der Rudra-Hymnen sowie Itihāsas und Purāṇas rezitiert; als wären zehntausend Wiederholungen des Praṇava (Om) vollzogen. Er reinigt zehn Ahnen und zehn Nachkommen. Er wird zum Reiniger der Speisereihe. Er wird groß. Er wird von schweren Sünden gereinigt: Brahmanenmord, Trunk von Alkohol, Golddiebstahl, Entweihung des Lehrerlagers und Umgang mit solchen Vergehen.

Academic Translation

He who daily studies this Upaniṣad becomes purified by fire; he becomes purified by wind; he becomes purified by the sun; he becomes purified by Brahmā; he becomes purified by Viṣṇu; he becomes purified by Rudra. He becomes as one who has bathed in all sacred fords; as one who has studied all the Vedas; as one who has practiced the observances and disciplines of all the Vedas. Through that, the fruits of having recited hundreds of thousands of (hymns called) Rudras and of the Itihāsas and Purāṇas accrue; (it is as though) ten thousand recitations of the Praṇava have been done. He purifies ten ancestors and ten descendants. He becomes a purifier of the dining line. He becomes great. He becomes purified from the grave sins—Brahmin-killing, drinking liquor, stealing gold, violating the teacher’s bed, and association with those (sins).
