Brahmavidya

उल्काहस्तो यथालोके द्रव्यमालोक्य तां त्यजेत् । ज्ञानेन ज्ञेयमालोक्य पश्चाज्ज्ञानं परित्यजेत् ॥३६॥

उल्का-हस्तः । यथा । लोके । द्रव्यम् । आलोक्य । ताम् । त्यजेत् । ज्ञानेन । ज्ञेयम् । आलोक्य । पश्चात् । ज्ञानम् । परित्यजेत् ॥३६॥

ulkā-hasto yathā loke dravyam ālokya tāṃ tyajet | jñānena jñeyam ālokya paścāj jñānaṃ parityajet ||36||

Wie in der Welt einer, der eine Fackel hält, nachdem er einen Gegenstand erleuchtet hat, diese dann beiseitelegt, so soll man, nachdem man durch Erkenntnis das Erkennbare erhellt hat, hernach sogar die Erkenntnis loslassen.

Just as, in the world, one holding a torch, having illuminated an object, would then discard that (torch), so too, by knowledge having illuminated the knowable, afterwards one should relinquish even knowledge.
