Skanda Purana — Nagara Khanda, Shloka 12

नूनं मुक्तिर्भवेत्तेषां चिता भस्मनि गोष्पदम् । दृश्यते तत्र तज्ज्ञात्वा संस्कार्या ब्राह्मणा मृताः

Transliteration

nūnaṃ muktirbhavetteṣāṃ citā bhasmani goṣpadam | dṛśyate tatra tajjñātvā saṃskāryā brāhmaṇā mṛtāḥ

Translation

Gewiss wird ihnen Befreiung zuteil: Dort sieht man in der Asche des Scheiterhaufens ein Zeichen wie einen „Kuhhufabdruck“. Kennt man dieses Merkmal, so sollen die verstorbenen Brāhmaṇas dort ordnungsgemäß mit den rechten Totenriten und Saṃskāras versehen werden.
