तेजसा तपसातीव दीप्यमानमिवानलम् । चीरवल्कलसंवीतं शालवृक्षं समाश्रितम्

tejasā tapasātīva dīpyamānamivānalam | cīravalkalasaṃvītaṃ śālavṛkṣaṃ samāśritam

Er loderte im Glanz strenger Askese wie das Feuer selbst; in Rinde und Lumpen gekleidet saß er, Zuflucht nehmend bei einem Śāla-Baum.
