Type: kund
Scene: A resolute brāhmaṇa (Devaśarman) speaks firmly to other brāhmaṇas, declaring he will partake in the king’s śrāddha as promised; the king stands anxious yet hopeful; ritual vessels and kuśa grass indicate śrāddha preparation.
A dharmic promise, made for the sake of another’s spiritual welfare, is upheld even under social pressure.
The vow concerns śrāddha in the Nāgahrada-centered Tīrthamāhātmya of the Nāgarakhaṇḍa.
Acceptance/participation as the śrāddha recipient (bhoktā) for the king’s rite, enabling completion of the ancestral ceremony.
